10 Things you probably didn’t know about Grenada but should

Welcome to Grenada, an island nation located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea, on the southern end of Grenadines. The country is made up of the main Grenada Island and six other smaller islands. If you plan to visit the island, make sure you know the following facts about it.

1. Due to production of nutmeg and mace, the island is fondly referred to as the 'Island of Spice'.

2.The island's capital is known as St. Georges and its population is 100.000 people.

3. Oh...and the island has a national bird too. Its name is Grenada Dove and it’s critically endangered.

4. The country's official language is English.

5. The demographic spread in Grenada is as follows; Black (82%), Mixed Black and European (13%), Mixed European and East Indian (5%).

6. Grenada practices parliamentary democracy along with constitutional monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II is its head of state.

7. The islands were formed as a result of volcanic activity. They boast rich soils. The interior is very rugged, with Mount St. Catherine being the highest at 840 meters.

8. The smaller islands that form part of the Grenada Republic include; Carriacou, Petit Martinique, Ronde Island, Caille Island, Diamond Island, Large Island, Saline Island, and Frigate Island.

9. Tourism, trade and agriculture are the economic mainstays of the island. Among the agricultural produce from here include; cinnamon, orange, cloves, ginger, coffee, nutmeg and mace.

10. Despite little French influence compared to other Caribbean Islands, the country boasts a heavy French culinary influence.
