Video: Hiking the Jamaica Blue Mountain Peak

At 2,256 metres (7,402 ft), the Blue Mountain Peak is the highest terestrial point in Jamaica. It bestrides the border between St Thomas and Portland parishes of Jamaica. It also happens to be one of the highest points in the Caribbean.

To climb to the peak of the Jamaican Blue Mountain, you will need to conquer about a 7-mile trek with 1000 meters change in elevation. It is a hikers' and campers' paradise.

It takes about 3 to 4 hours to trek to the top. Most of the locals love doing it under the cover of darkness so that the morning sun finds them at the peak. during the days with clear sky, you can see the Cuba islands in the distance.

Due to the cold climate, growth of plants is inhibited. You will therefore find dwarfed plants on your way to the top...and you cannot find them anywhere eles in the world.

After a long climb, you can commune with the small farming communities of Hagley Gap and Claverty cottage near the top.

By conquering this climb, you will be literally standing at the top of the Caribbean. You can carry your binoculars and cameras to capture and see spectacular sights at this vantage point.

I wish you luck!
