Pet friendly travel

Pets have become an important part of our daily lives. So much so, that they are family and our best friends. When we travel, we want to travel with our families and our best friends, and we want the trip to be comfortable for the both of us. Here are a few trends for pet-friendly travel from Jubilee Travel's manager Sandy, and her doggie-BFF Dolly:

•    JFK Airport has opened a pet potty! Yes, a pet potty in terminal 4. It comes with fake grass, a fire hydrant, and is decorated with paw prints. It's also lined with Epoxy and waterproof turf. It allows your pets to feel so comfortable that they can “go” easily.  The room is hosed down regularly, and pet owners are given bags so that they can clean up after themselves.

•    Bacon flavored water, anyone?  With the rise in the amount of money that is spent on pets, hotels are on the dog pampering trend. With amenities such as bacon-flavored water, specially cooked meals, custom robes and massages, pets have become prized guests at hotels.

Here are a few hotels and the pet-friendly amenities they offer:

o    Denver’s Art Hotel hosts the ART Run where guests follow a special map that leads through downtown where you can see some of Denver’s best public art. On their return, guests get a cold bottle of water while dogs get their own bacon-flavored water.

o    Arizona’s L’Auberge has its Red Rocks and Ruff package that contains gift bags of pet products. These products include Whiskers Barkery, a dog leash, and a foldable dog bowl. Dogs also get their own dog beds and bowls to use during their stay.

o    San Diego’s Hotel Del Coronado, which is located near the local dog beach, has a Del Dogs and Cats program. It contains amenities such as treats, pet room service menus, beds, and leashes. They also host a weekly Sunday evening “Yappy Hour”, where pets can lap up Evian while their owners have drinks such as the Salty Dog.

o    A few other pet-friendly hotels include the Fairmont, Kimpton, Best Western and the Red Roof Inns.
