Looking for Adventure in Malaysia?

Not even the Malaysian visionary leader, Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, could have foreseen the tremendous growth that Malaysia has seen in the last 50 years. Today, it is a first world economy that sees more than 30 million visitors annually.

Part of these 30 million visitors goes to Malaysia because of the available adventure opportunities in the country. The following are the top adventure options in the country.

1. Borneo

Borneo is home to the Penan tribe whose hunter and gatherer tribe is quickly becoming extinct. Before it is eliminated out of the country, make sure you travel there and live with the Penan tribesmen. Among the experiences you will have here include; blow-pipe making, rattan weaving, storytelling, wildlife tracking, medicinal plants and ethno biology.

2. Mulu

Mulu is the capital of adventures in Malaysia. Here, you get to mountain-bike to Mulu, swim or raft in the rivers, climb the peaks of Mount Mulu, hike the feared Head hunter’s trail, explore the caves, track the wildlife or just relax in the wild. Whatever else you do in Malaysia, make sure you visit the Mulu neighborhood.

3. Mount Murud

This is the highest sandstone mountain in Sarawak and features diverse flora and fauna. It is also a popular destination for hiking, wildlife watching as well as mountain climbing. You will also get a chance to interact with the native tribes of Lun Bawang and Kelabit tribes and sample their culinary delights as well as cultural dances.

4. Mount Kinabalu

Noteworthy on this mountain is its Via Feratta. It is the highest in the world and it’s not for the fainthearted or those afraid of heights. You will be walking on vertical surfaces and crossing valleys on cables. It is certainly dangerous and you will get a lesson before embarking on this adventurous endeavor.

5. Waters of Sipadan

The waters of Sipadan in Borneo are popular with divers. The scenic underwater flora and fauna is certainly what draws divers to this water.

In Malaysia, there are probably more adventure destinations than any other form of travel. The country is an adventurer's dream. Malaysia is a relatively cheap destination compared to Hong Kong or Japan. If you are travelling on a lean budget but want to have an adventurous holiday, then Malaysia is a good bet.
