Turks and Caicos, or more popularly, TCI, are British overseas territory made up of the larger Turks islands and the smaller Caicos Islands. They are located in the Lucayan Archipelago, which happens to be part of the larger Antilles islands group. It is a popular destination for businessmen that want to mix a little pleasure with business. Below are some things you should know about the islands.

  1. They are popular for their tourism package and offshore banking.
  2. The islands are home to 49,000 inhabitants.
  3. The capital of the islands is known as Cockburn Town and it is located on the Grand Turk Island.
  4. With a total surface are of 430 square miles, the islands are small. They are located about 1042 kilometers southeast of Miami in United States.
  5. The demographic spread of the islands is as follows; Afro Caribbean (88%), Caucasian (8%), East Indian and others 94%).
  6. The islands feature marine tropical climate. Summer temperatures can go as high as 33 degrees centigrade while winter night temperatures never fall below 18 degrees centigrade.
  7. A majority of travellers that visit the islands are from Canada. Due to its long history with Canada and other British territories, some politicians are of the opinion that the two should be merged.
  8. The official language of the islands is English. However, its proximity to other Caribbean islands has led to spread of other languages including; Spanish and Haitian Creole.
  9. Among the popular resorts in the islands include; Beaches Resorts, Seven Stars Resort, Grace Bay club, and Alexandra Resort.
  10. The islands are a biodiversity hotspot with rare animals such as French Angel fish, blue tang and squirrel fish. Perhaps this is why the region is on the UK's tentative UNESCO world heritage sites.
